At Khalsa Panth Academy, our Gurbani Kirtan classes are designed to guide students from their very first Sa to confidently performing Shabads in proper Raag. Whether you are a child, teenager, or adult, beginner or experienced—we have a path for you.

Gurbani Kirtan – Beginner Level

📘 No prior music experience required

Our Beginner Kirtan classes focus on building the foundation of Sikh devotional singing. Students are taught how to sit with harmonium, understand Sargam, and develop vocal control. Step by step, we introduce:


What You’ll Learn:

  • Sargam basics – Sa Re Ga Ma
  • Voice exercises to improve stability, range, and strength
  • Playing harmonium while singing simple Shabads
  • Intro to Taal (rhythm) with hand patterns
  • Practice of correct pronunciation and basic Gurbani meanings
  • Singing simple Shabads with proper Sur (tune)

By Month 4, most students begin learning Shabads in beginner Raags with harmonium.

Gurbani Kirtan – Advanced Level

📋 Entry after skill check or promotion from Beginner level

Our Advanced Gurbani Kirtan classes are rooted in Raag-based Kirtan as sung by our Gurus. Students build confidence in performing Shabads with correct Raag mood, rhythm, and spiritual expression.


What You’ll Learn:

  • Deep dive into Gurbani Raags (from the 31 in Guru Granth Sahib Ji)
  • Alaap, Bandish, and Taans for advanced presentation
  • Stage performance techniques and how to lead Kirtan
  • Shabad selection according to Raag, Tukh (line), or theme
  • Meaning-focused singing – understanding the emotion behind each Shabad
  • Guidance on Taals and tempo using tabla and hand beats

Students may also get opportunities to perform at academy samagams, Gurpurab events, and local Gurdwaras.

Absolutely! Our Beginner classes are for complete newcomers. No experience needed—we start from the very basics and build your confidence.

No. The academy provides harmoniums and tablas during class. You can buy one later for practice if you’d like, and we’ll help you choose the right one.

Yes. Alongside singing, we also explain the meanings of Shabads, correct pronunciation, and how Raag brings out the emotion of Gurbani.

Our classes are open to children (5+), teens, and adults. We adjust our teaching style to suit the age group and comfort level of each student.

Beginners start basic Raag-based Shabads around Month 4. Advanced students explore full Gurbani Raags after showing comfort in Sur and taal.

Yes. As you progress, you’ll have chances to sing during academy events, Gurpurabs, and even Gurdwara programs (optional).

Group classes are held once a week for 30 minutes. We also give home practice guidance so you can grow faster.

Mostly in Punjabi with English explanations when needed. Our goal is to preserve the mother tongue while making learning easy and meaningful.

Yes, we follow a term-based calendar with scheduled breaks, Gurpurab holidays, and practice weeks. You’ll receive a copy upon joining.

Of course! Once your teacher feels you’re ready, or after a short assessment, you can move up to the Advanced level.
